It has been a while, though those Sergio Ramos to Man United rumours are back again…
Sergio Ramos is undoubtedly amongst the best centre-halves within our game. The Spaniard has won all there is to win at Real Madrid. However, an exit from the Santiago Bernabeu looks likelier than ever before…
Apparently, Ramos is ready to quit Real Madrid this summer, after recent talks over a new contract collapsed. That’s according to The Mirror in an exclusive.
What this means is Ramos is available on a free transfer this July, while he’s already allowed to talk to overseas clubs about signing on a pre-contract and getting a deal put in place for when his current terms in the Spanish capital end.
What’s interesting is that Ramos apparently doesn’t fancy France and Paris Saint-Germain. That’s where United come in.
It’s claimed that the world-class 34-year-old views United as his ‘first-choice’ transfer destination, while Everton will also be in the hunt thanks to Carlo Ancelotti. A move is thought to be difficult for both Liverpool and Manchester City due to Ramos’ £200,000-a-week wages.
Where would Ramos fit in at Old Trafford?
The article from The Mirror points to Edinson Cavani – and it’s a fair comparison to make given there’s less than twelve months difference in age.
Cavani has brought some experience to the table, while offering something different in comparison to our other, younger forwards. Could Ramos have a similar effect? Absolutely.
When you consider United’s problems in defence, Ramos could come in and be that constant starter alongside Harry Maguire. The Spaniard has an excellent injury record, while he’s a born winner like Bruno Fernandes.
On a free transfer, this could be a brilliant signing by United if they can pull it off. I look at Chelsea’s move for Thiago Silva as an excellent comparison, with the Brazilian looking like a key player for Chelsea.
Will a deal happen? In our opinion, it’s probably unlikely, but United should absolutely explore the possibility of signing Ramos if he’s genuinely available for transfer.
