Sergio Romero considering Man United future after being overlooked twice in a week

Well, it felt somewhat likely, but a Sergio Romero transfer away from Manchester United could be on the cards this summer.

According to The Metro, United star Romero is ‘considering his future’ at Manchester United, in a week which he was overlooked twice to start games.

The Argentine was ‘content’ with his role as being the starting cup goalkeeper, though after being dropped for the game against Chelsea he was ‘really down’.

Romero’s mood was then made worse due to a couple of poor David de Gea errors in the FA Cup semi-final. He then thought he’d be a shoo-in to start against West Ham United in midweek. He was again overlooked.

The shot-stopper understood that his chances at being named number one were slim, but Romero now feels ‘demoralised’ after not being given an opportunity following a poor season from De Gea. That’s completely understandable.

So what happens next?

With twelve months left to run on his current deal, with United having an option to extend that by a further year, the ball is currently in the Red Devils’ court. They’ll no doubt command a transfer fee to let Romero go…

Then you have the Dean Henderson factor. For me, it’s his time. However, the young Englishman doesn’t want to play second-fiddle and he’ll only stick around if he’s named number one. It’s a finely balanced situation for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sort out…

In every scenario, it feels like Romero’s United race has been run. He has been a sublime servant to us and probably the best back-up in the world. We’ll undoubtedly miss him but this summer, it feels like the timing is right to let him go. What d’ya reckon?
