Serie A side Fiorentina weighing up move for Man United’s Fred: report

Manchester United have started the season with one win, one loss and one draw. For Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, there’s much work to be done to turn our fortunes around.

The problem area continues to be midfield. There’s no drive, desire, cutting edge or quality. One player we’re yet to see is Fred, despite the fact that he only signed last summer and cost over £50million…

Now, though, Serie A side Fiorentina are weighing up making a bid for the out-of-favour 26-year-old, with the Italian giants ready to offer around £27million for his services.

The European transfer window doesn’t actually close until September 2nd so there’s just over a week to get this deal done if United and Fiorentina can reach an agreement.

However, the question is, should the Reds cash in? We’re already looking light in terms of numbers in the midfield area, so I’m not sure letting another body go without replacing is the right idea.

For what it’s worth, I still feel Fred could have something to offer United. He struggled in his first season but the Brazil international has now had time to adapt and adjust to life in his new surroundings. Surely it makes sense to give him another season before taking an offer worth half of what the club paid to sign him about a year ago?
