Manchester United Football Club made some astute transfer moves over the summer, with Jose Mourinho strengthening his playing squad pretty significantly. However, it came as no secret that the Red Devils boss was trying to bring in a new attacker; but to no avail in the end.
Undoubtedly, that is probably an area of the squad that the manager may look at investing in when the next transfer window rolls around in January, and now, Serie A star Marek Hamsik has reacted to the possibility of making a move to Old Trafford.
The Slovakia international was asked about whether he’d find it tough to turn down a club like Manchester United. Although he’s admitted it’d be tempting, the attacking midfielder has re-affirmed his commitment to current side Napoli – which is to be expected.
“That’s hard to say. It would definitely be the hardest decision in my career. Maybe everyone wants to play at these clubs, but I can’t answer that. I think that Napoli are one of the top 10 European teams in terms of game play and performance.” Hamsik told Kicker, as per Bleacher Report.
“As a footballer, it’s hard because you never know what comes next. I’ve still got a long time to go on my contract and I cannot see into the future. I’m not thinking about leaving Naples.”
The 30-year-old has spent the last ten years in Naples and he has a contract there until 2020, so it wouldn’t be cheap if Mourinho was to try and prise him away.
In the last season alone, the attacking midfielder scored ten goals and tacked on twelve assists for his teammates which is an excellent tally. Not only does he find the back of the net, but he clearly creates brilliant goalscoring opportunities for his teammates too.
My issue with any potential Hamsik move is the fact that he isn’t an out and out winger and that’s what we crave. United have a whole lot of stars who can play in that #10 role just behind the striker, and unfortunately, it wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense to bring in another one of those guys.
