Shaw now behind Williams in Man United left-back pecking order: report

Five years ago now, Manchester United fans were incredibly excited when they signed the next superstar left-back in Luke Shaw – or so they thought.

The Southampton academy graduate has been plagued by injuries ever since making the move to Old Trafford. Time spent on the treatment table has majorly derailed his 2019/20 term, too.

Shaw suffered a hamstring injury back in August. We’re yet to see him back out on the football field. This time around, it has come at a cost.

According to ESPN, the 24-year-old United star has now fallen behind talented-teenager Brandon Williams in the pecking order.

Although Williams has only started a handful of games, he’s impressed that much, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has now shelved plans to sign a left-back in the January transfer window.

There’s always something special about watching academy graduates play for your club. Williams being Mancunian only makes that even better.

ESPN does add that Shaw remains a key part of Solskjaer’s squad, and perhaps the competition that Williams brings will give Shaw a much-needed kick up the behind and force him to perform at a higher level.

For now, though, Shaw has to work on getting himself fully fit and ready to play. Hopefully, he gets involved against Astana tomorrow and puts in a top-drawer display.
