Shea Lacey ‘set to sign’ first pro Man United contract in a few weeks

Man United are looking good to secure the future of Shea Lacey, with the attacker all set to sign his first pro deal.

I still firmly believe that Manchester United is the best academy in the country. The Red Devils have consistently produced top-level players, despite their recent struggles over the last decade or so.

Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have been the crowning jewels from the most recent FA Youth Cup-winning side. Others may from that team may well follow.

However, I’d argue that Shea Lacey is an even bigger prospect than the pair. Thankfully, United are about to secure his short-term future.

It’s the Manchester Evening News with the scoop, who state that the talented United starlet is all ‘set to sign’ his first pro deal over the next few weeks.

In 2023, Lacey signed a scholarship deal with United, though the club are already set to give the 16-year-old pro terms, as his 17th birthday is just around the corner.

Injury has derailed Lacey’s campaign, though the talent is so obviously there for the young attacker. This deal is set to be announced on April 17th when he turns seventeen.

Lacey is a United fan, despite coming from Liverpool and a household of Liverpool supporters.

It absolutely makes sense for the Reds to sort out Lacey’s future sooner rather than later, as he’s the sort of player who’d attract interest from every other club in the world. The fact that he’s a boyhood Red definitely plays into our hands, particularly at this young stage of his career.

Let’s hope Lacey can put the injuries behind him and really start to kick on. He’s the sort of player that could feature heavily during pre-season tour in a few months’ time.
