Sheffield United trying to secure Dean Henderson move before U21 Euros: report

For all their faults over the last half-decade, Manchester United have been excellent when it comes to choosing their goalkeepers.

David de Gea is amongst the best on the planet while I’d argue Sergio Romero is a top quality back-up. Then you have top talents like Joel Pereira and Dean Henderson waiting in the wings. Today, a story has emerged about the latter.

As most of you will know, Henderson spent his season on loan with Sheffield United in the Championship. The 22-year-old helped the Blades earn Premier League promotion – and as you’d expect, they want to loan the goalkeeper once again.

According to the Sheffield Star, talks between United and Sheffield are already underway, with Blades manager Chris Wilder wanting to sort out a deal before Henderson jets off to the U21 European Championships with England in mid-June.

If no deal is reached before Henderson heads to Italy with the Three Lions, it could scupper Wilder’s pre-season plans – and it’s understandable why Sheffield would want to sort out a deal quickly.

Personally, though, I’d like to see him head to Sheffield – but late on in the transfer window. I’d love to see Henderson spend his pre-season with United first, giving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a chance to get a look at the 22-year-old first-hand. Why should the Reds cater to Sheffield’s needs in that regard? At the end of the day, it’s the Old Trafford club who are paying his wages.
