Sheffield United very keen on signing James Garner on loan: report

James Garner’s personal stock continues to rise, with Sheffield United pushing hard to sign him on loan.

Not too long ago, James Garner was being talked up as someone who was ready for the Manchester United first-team. I was one of those people. I still believe the Englishman can do a job in that regard.

However, with midfield being an area where United are pretty stacked, minutes for Garner may have been hard to come by. With that in mind, perhaps another short-term move away for the box-to-box man makes the most sense.

According to The Sun, that seems to be the route United are ready to go down. Apparently, there’s a clear front runner for Garner’s services, too; Sheffield United.

Apparently, the Championship outfit are ‘very keen’ on signing the United starlet on loan, with the recently-relegated Blades looking to bolster their midfield.

It’s stated that Garner would play a ‘big part’ in Slavisa Jokanovic’s plans, with Sheffield United keen on returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Blades are hoping their positive relationship with United, having taken Dean Henderson on loan in the past, will work in their favour.

Garner would be signed as a direct replacement in midfield, in case late moves away from Sheffield United for the likes of Sander Berge do materialise as expected.

Although I’d prefer to see Garner remain in the Premier League, perhaps another season in the Championship is best for his development. There’s more chance he’d start on a regular basis there, and as previously touched upon, a similar move worked wonders for Henderson just a few years ago.

Garner has all the ability in the world. Now he just needs a platform to showcase that talent. Wherever he ends up next season, I’m fully expecting the Birkenhead-born midfielder to make a massively positive impression.
