Shola Shoretire named Man United Young Player of the Year

Shola Shoretire has been named winner of the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award at Man United.

Old Trafford has played host to some of the greatest young players in the history of world football. That will never change.

Perhaps the best barometer of who the next big thing at Manchester United could be, comes in the form of the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award. We’ve seen Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood lift this individual honour. Now, the most recent winner has been announced.

Shola Shoretire is the latest recipient, following a stunning campaign, during which he’d make his first team debut for Manchester United. Upon receiving the honour, Shoretire would send a heartfelt message to the fans, explaining just how proud of a moment this is for the whole family.

Check out Shola Shoretire’s message to the fans here:

Without wanting to heap pressure on the young man, the world is Shoretire’s oyster. This kid is special and he has an incredibly bright future if he continues to develop.

The 17-year-old attacking midfielder can create chances off either foot, score goals and show a general footballing intelligence that simply shouldn’t be possible at his age. It’s why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already started to drip-feed him first-team minutes. No doubt those opportunities will increase in 2021/22.

For Shoretire, it’s now about kicking on from here and proving to everyone that he deserved to win this pretty special trophy. He’s at the best place to hone his talent, working under a manager who obviously believes in him as a player.

Congratulations on your award, Shola!
