Shola Shoretire has been training with the Manchester United first-team over the weekend.
With a victory tonight, Manchester United can move up into second place in the Premier League table. That’s easier said than done of course, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side always proving to be a tough task for the Red Devils.
At this stage in the season, games are coming thick and fast. Squad depth is now more important than ever, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking to keep players feeling as fresh as possible.
That could well be why a handful of youth players were included in training with the senior squad over the weekend. The scoop comes from the Manchester Evening News, who name five youth-team players involved.
Amongst them was 16-year-old starlet Shola Shoretire, who we’re big fans of. If we’re correct, this is the first time he has been involved in a first-team training session – and it comes ahead of tonight’s game against Wolves. Will Fish is another who is getting his taste of first-team training.
The other three players who were called up were Facundo Pellistri, Anthony Elanga and Ethan Laird. All of whom are pushing hard for regular places within Solskjaer’s main squad.
Will any of these guys feature tonight?
Well, the MEN reckon Facundo Pellistri is in with a shout. Sure, he could make the bench but I don’t see Solskjaer throwing him into the deep end against a top side like Wolves.
As for the others, it was more than likely a chance to see how they cope in a first-team session. Solskjaer clearly rates these guys but they’re still players with the long-term goal in mind – as opposed to them playing senior matches in the here and now.
I think Fish has really come on leaps and bounds this season, while we all know how good Laird and Elanga are. Personally, these are players who will probably be involved on pre-season tour next summer (assuming we have one of course!)
