Marouane Fellaini, Manchester United’s saviour. Jose Mourinho’s men left it late, but the big Belgian scored in injury time to secure the Red Devils’ place in the Champions League knockout rounds.
In truth, it was a fixture that United should have been far more comfortable in, and in the end, they were extremely lucky to scoop all three points, while also having David de Gea to thank.
It’s fitting that the man who saved Mourinho’s bacon was Fellaini, and the goal itself was nicely taken (albeit with a hint of handball as the midfielder swivelled and hit it).
Hopefully, now, the fans start to put respect on Fellaini’s name. It was just a few months ago that he was criticised for asking for more money to remain at Old Trafford, but credit where it’s due, he has continuously fought for his manager.
As you’d imagine, United fans were buzzing with the late winner on social media, with Fellaini rightly taking all of the credit. On the whole, though, I cannot help but feel the result just papers over the cracks for another week or so…
