According to The Mirror, we have agreed a fee of around £26million for Sao Paulo youngster, Lucas Moura. The 19-year old came on as a second half substitute for Brazil in the Olympic warm-up game vs. Team GB, he looked extremely quick, composed, and skilful, but is he really what we need?
In my eyes, probably not. With our current financial situation, I just can’t see how the club can justify spending so much money on an unproven teenager, in an area where we don’t really need to strengthen. We already have plenty of options on either wing, unless Fergie plans to utilise him in a more central role, the move doesn’t make any sense.
The interest in Lucas Moura, was then confirmed by Sir Alex, but he rubbished reports that a deal had been agreed “It’s not correct, we haven’t reached an agreement for the player. We’ve shown an interest but until such time a we get a deal agreed we can’t say he’s our player.”
Fergie then confirmed that the club are still trying to bring in some new faces before the start of the season “At this moment we’re looking at other options in terms of bringing other players in. We’re not lying on our backsides doing nothing. We’re trying hard to bring other players to the club.”
Whilst its good to know that the club are looking to sign players before the season starts, in my opinion its rather worrying that the talk of a new left-back coming in has all gone a bit quiet. Ah well, the boss knows best.
