Sir Alex Ferguson wants Man United to sign John McGinn this summer: report

Sir Alex Ferguson will always have an influence at Manchester United, he has earned that right thanks to an untouchable Old Trafford career spanning almost three decades.

With one of his greatest ever forwards now sitting in the dugout in the form of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, there’s no surprise that the great Scot is still making his voice heard in and around Salford Quays.

Well last night, in an exclusive from The Sun, it is being claimed that Ferguson ‘wants’ United to sign the 24-year-old Aston Villa midfielder, John McGinn, this summer…

Apparently, the Scot is ‘lobbying hard’ for his fellow countryman McGinn to make the move to the Theatre of Dreams, although he won’t come cheap with Villa wanting £50million to let the midfielder leave.

Furthermore, Fergie is close to McGinn’s grandfather Jack, so it does seem as though there’s some personal connection there which could be having an impact.

I like McGinn. He’s an excellent little box-to-box midfielder who could do a job for any team in world football. However, he’s yet to be tried and tested in the Premier League and I’d love to see how he gets on for a season before the Red devils splash big money to go out and get him.

There’s no doubt United do need a new midfielder during this window but I’d much prefer to see the Reds go after someone who is already proven in a top-level league, while also having more big-game experience under their belt.

I’d definitely earmark McGinn as one for the future, though…
