Sir Alex on Beckham

In his new book, Sir Alex has revealed all on fan favourite David Beckham. Fergie claimed that Beckham wanted to be famous, and wanted to be known outside of football, this eventually contributed to his downfall at Manchester United. He also added that Beckham moving from Real Madrid to LA Galaxy was a mistake.

Beckham won it all at Manchester United. Six Premier League’s, two FA Cups and one Champions League before moving to Real Madrid at the age of 28.  He didn’t win anywhere near as much when he left.

“The minute a Manchester United player thought he was bigger than the manager, he had to go, David thought he was bigger than Alex Ferguson.”

The boss admitted that he had a problem with Beckham’s celebrity lifestyle, and said that Victoria Adams played a pivotal role in his footballing career.

“David was the only player I managed who chose to be famous, who made it his mission to be known outside the game, I felt uncomfortable with the celebrity aspect of his life.”

“He fell in love with Victoria – that changed everything.”

Sir Alex also praised the former right midfielder though, by labelling him as an ‘icon to every kid in the world’.
