Six Man United stars named in ESPN’s worst XI of the season

More than a handful of man United regulars have been included in a worst XI of the Premier League season…

Neither Ole Gunnar Solskjaer nor Ralf Rangnick could get any sort of tune out of this Manchester United squad.

For all the talent and ability within the dressing room, the players just couldn’t get anything positive going when out on the field.

Our sixth-placed finish probably flattered us, in truth. The performances felt far worse than that and United couldn’t have looked any worse of a ‘team’ if they tried. It felt like a collection of talented individuals thrown together.

It’s absolutely no surprise, then, to see several members of that dressing room getting pelters from all angles by the media. I’d usually back our lads to the hilt but right now, I’m seriously struggling.

Well, when Ian Darke released his worse Premier League line-up of the season, more than half of the names in the XI play for United – which pretty much sums it up to be honest…

Check out Ian Darke’s ESPN worst XI in full here:

Aaron Wan-Bissaka hasn’t developed like we’d all hoped he would at this point, which is why he may well be sold during the summer transfer window. Diogo Dalot, his replacement, hasn’t been fantastic either.

Raphael Varane has been plagued by injury issues but I feel like his inclusion in this side is somewhat harsh. Sure, I get it, this United backline has shipped goals by the bucketload but I can only remember a few that were the Frenchman’s fault.

Harry Maguire absolutely deserves to be in this side. To describe his performances as abysmal is putting it kindly. Game-in-game-out, our captain made mistake after mistake. I actually believe he’ll turn it around under Erik ten Hag, but he was woeful for nine months.

Paul Pogba has gone out with a whimper. He’s just not looked all that interested in putting the effort in this season and that’s probably because he’s already thinking about his future elsewhere. The less said about him, the better.

Bruno Fernandes has still contributed goals and assists this season, though the overall effectiveness of his game has definitely worsened. He’s made some careless mistakes with the ball at his feet, allowing sloppiness to creep into his game.

Marcus Rashford is another who is absolutely deserving of his spot in this side. He’s just looked miles off the races since returning last October, while the Englishman also looks bereft of confidence.

Do you think this is harsh on any of the Reds included? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
