Manchester United Football Club need midfield reinforcements this month – that much is obvious.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have been heavily linked with a move for Bruno Fernandes; a story we’ve covered pretty extensively.
However, another name is emerging as a potential candidate; Boubakary Soumare.
The link comes from Sky Sports News, who state that the 20-year-old box-to-box midfielder is set to make his transfer decision before the January transfer deadline. He has to choose between signing for United or Chelsea…
Apparently, United have held talks with Soumare, though no decision is expected to be made before Lille play Paris Saint-Germain on January 26th.
Soumare has two-and-a-half-years left on his current deal with Lille and has impressed both domestically and in European competition this term.
Built in a similar mould to Paul Pogba, United could be looking to replace the mercurial Frenchman before he inevitably leaves the Theatre of Dreams.
It’s as simple as this; United need signings, multiple of them and quickly if they’re to mount a serious challenge for trophies and secure a top-four finish.
If Edward Woodward can somehow sign both Soumare and Fernandes this month then at least we’d give ourselves a chance at achieving something this term. Both are different players who’d compliment each other brilliantly, plus, with Pogba and Scott McTominay both injured, it’d actually offer Solskjaer some much-needed depth in a key area of the field.
