Sky: Man United interested in signing Dayot Upamecano

Manchester United were playing some lovely football before play was stopped due to *that* global pandemic. It’s a shame, but nothing is more important than human life.

As expected, the Red Devils are now being linked with pretty much every name under the sun at this point, which is predictable, given the lack of actual football being played.

Today, a new name has been thrown into the ring via Sky Sports News’ German branch. They say that United are interested in signing the talented 21-year-old centre-back, Dayot Upamecano – although they’ll face stiff competition from Manchester City…

Upamecano has emerged as ‘one of the best’ upcoming defenders in Europe, with the French-Guinean currently plying his trade for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

What’s interesting about Upamecano is that his contract expires in twelve months time, while he currently has a release clause of £52.5m. However, there’s a very real possibility that the centre-half could leave for much cheaper than that given his situation.

Apparently, talks are at an early stage between United, Leipzig and undoubtedly other European giants, with the Reds wanting to sign another centre-half due to uncertain futures of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones. I just hope that it doesn’t affect the development of Axel Tuanzebe should the deal happen…
