Things had gone rather quiet on the Manchester United/Harry Maguire transfer saga over the last 24 hours or so, although we’ve finally been given some fresh information on the Reds’ move for slabhead.
We read some things on social media, and although this one was hard to find, after some digging we’ve found the story. It comes from Kaveh Solhekol live on Sky Sports News’ transfer show last night. Thanks to @MUFC_SCOTLAND for the video (see below).
As you can see, Solhekol claims that United have made a new, £80million bid for the 26-year-old – which would be a world-record fee for a defender, eclipsing the £75million that Liverpool paid to sign Virgil van Dijk.
Solhekol seems somewhat hesitant to discuss the story and he constantly claims that it’s only from one source so far, meaning there is still work to be done to work out whether it’s true or not. However, he must trust this source as he’s brought it to live television at the first possible opportunity.
£80million is an absurd amount of money, but United are desperate to acquire a top-level centre-back during this window to put at the heart of the defence alongside Victor Lindelof.
Maguire’s name has been appearing on the back-pages all summer and it seems as though the Red Devils are getting desperate as the transfer window comes to its conclusion.
Hopefully, this is enough to tempt Leicester City into parting with their prized asset…
