Manchester United are playing Inter Milan today. Earlier on in the transfer window, I sort of expected to see Romelu Lukaku playing for the Serie A side in this one…
Well obviously, that’s not the case with Lukaku still donning Red Devils colours – although the striker won’t be involved in Singapore this afternoon as he’s still nursing an injury problem.
Just before kick-off, Sky Sports News gave us another update on Lukaku’s future, with the British media outlet claiming United have rejected a £53.9m bid for the 26-year-old.
Apparently, Inter made the offer a couple of days ago, with the offer consisting of straight-up cash with no add-ons or bonuses.
However, the bid was dismissed by United who are looking for a fee in excess of the £79million that the Old Trafford club paid to sign Lukaku just two years ago.
Milan boss Antonio Conte all-but confirmed his desire to sign Lukaku in his pre-match press conference before this one, but if Inter keep coming in with these ridiculously low offers then there’s absolutely no way a deal will be done. It really is as simple as that.
Lukaku has scored 42 goals in 96 appearances across all competitions for United since moving here. In fact, the only Premier League strikers who have scored more are Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane…
At this stage, I’m thinking Inter may have to start looking elsewhere as they don’t seem to have the sort of money that United are currently looking for. Credit to Edward Woodward for remaining firm, though.
