As we all know, Manchester United Football Club sold Romelu Lukaku over the summer – although the Belgian will be joining us in the Europa League in the new year, with Luke Shaw hilariously poking fun at the former Red Devil.
Anyway back to business. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will no doubt be looking at reinforcing his attacking line at the earliest opportunity, as these days, Anthony Martial is really the only recognised striker within the squad.
One name that keeps popping up is Erling Braut Haaland, the RB Salzburg striker who has been in stupendous form this term.
Well last night, Sky Sports News gave us an update in that regard. Apparently, United sent their head scout, Marcel Bout, to watch the Champions League game between Salzburg and Liverpool – with the prolific 19-year-old striker being involved in the said fixture.
Although Sky doesn’t specify whom United were there to watch, it is claimed that scouts from 40 different European teams at the Red Bull Arena, with a ‘large number’ of those scouts were there to watch Haaland.
Haaland has scored 28 goals in just 22 games this term, with the forward continuing to be linked with a whole host of elite sides – including United, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Liverpool.
Unfortunately for United and every other side in attendance, Haaland probably had his worst game of the Champions League campaign thus far. Virgil van Dijk kept him relatively quiet and his inexperience definitely showed in a game where his team needed him the most.
I guess that’s to be expected given his age and rapid rise to fame and I’m sure he will have learned an awful lot from the fixture.
I’ve said this on the blog before, but what does play into United’s hands is the fact that Solskjaer has a working relationship with Haaland from their time together at Molde. Hopefully, we can use the Baby Faced Assassin to our advantage!
