Last summer, Manchester United took the decision to let go of both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez leave without replacement. In truth, that never felt like the wisest idea.
Now, it seems as though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is trying to right those wrongs by adding a striker. Earlier in the week, we covered a story from Goal in which it was claimed United had enquired about Wolves’ star forward, Raul Jimenez.
Today, Sky Sports have run an article claiming that United are keen on signing the 28-year-old forward, though they know that a January move for the Mexican will be tough.
“Manchester are interested in signing him (Jimenez) but it would be a very difficult deal to do because he has been playing so well at Wolves since he moved there.” Kaveh Solhekol said live on air on Sky Sports News.
“He has been identified by Manchester United as a player they are interested in. I find it difficult to believe Wolves would sell him, especially in January.”
Jimenez has been an absolute revelation for Wolves, scoring goals for fun while holding the ball up supremely well. There’s no doubt he’d be a stunning addition to this United squad. Not only would he take some burden off Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, he’d actually offer Solskjaer a different dimension.
The problem is there is absolutely no chance Jimenez leaves in January. United need the help now and they can ill-afford to wait until the summer if they want to secure Champions League football for next term.
Although I guess in this situation, United simply have no choice to either wait or look elsewhere…
Sky also adds that United are ‘looking at’ Lyon’s Moussa Dembele, though he’s in the same situation as the Ligue 1 club won’t be looking to sell.
