Sky: Solskjaer tells Man United to sign Harry Maguire as soon as possible

Manchester United’s search for a new centre-back has been dragging on all summer. The Red Devils have shown an interest in several players, but the rumour that will not go away is a proposed move for Harry Maguire.

Well, Sky Sports News have another update on that saga for us – and it’s a big one. According to their sources, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ‘made it clear’ to Manchester United and Edward Woodward that he wants to sign the 26-year-old ‘as soon as possible’.

Furthermore, Leicester City will not let Maguire leave for less than £80million, which is £10million less than what United have offered so far. It is now up to the Red Devils’ vice-chairman, Woodward, to get the deal done.

Perhaps the injury suffered by Eric Bailly has forced Solskjaer into action. Make no mistake about it, though, United do need a top-class centre-half and Maguire would be a stunning signing should the club manage to pull it off.

Sky add that at this point, the player is ‘happy’ at Leicester, although he would like to move to Old Trafford should a deal be reached between the two clubs.

Not only would Maguire instantly be the best centre-back at the club, he’d also be that on-field leader United have been desperately lacking. I’d love to see this deal pushed over the line over the next few days before the Reds take on Kristiansund on Tuesday… Fingers crossed.
