Manchester United Football Club are closing in on a deal to sign Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant on a free transfer.
Sky Sports News say that the 35-year-old will undergo a medical this week, with the Englishman to act as cover for David de Gea and Sergio Romero.
When the move does go through, Sky adds that it’s likely young Joel Pereira will head out on loan to gain some first-team experience.
This news comes hours after journalist Craig Norwood confirmed that a deal was in place, and with Sky now backing it up, it’s highly likely that Grant is to be our third summer signing.
At first, I was unsure about this one. However, the more I think about it, I feel it does make sense. We all know that Jose Mourinho loves veteran presences in and around the squad; not just out on the pitch.
Grant’s influence and leadership can rub off on the younger lads, and he’s an excellent asset to have.
Sure, he’ll only play a few games here and there, but no doubt he’s in dreamland. He’ll get to play for the home side at Old Trafford. This is a huge opportunity for him.
