Sky Sports: Inter officials due in UK this week to discuss £75m Lukaku deal

Romelu Lukaku’s Manchester United future remains up in the air as the Red Devils gear up for their first pre-season tour game against Perth Glory this coming Saturday.

Over the last 24 hours there has been a major development. It comes from the usually reliable Sky Sports News, who states that Inter Milan officials are due in the UK ‘this week’ as they step up talks with United over a potential move for the 26-year-old forward.

Sky ‘understand’ that United want a cash only deal worth £75million (which is what they paid to sign Lukaku from Everton two years ago). However, the pressure is on the Nerazzurri to raise the funds needed, as Juventus have also shown an interest in signing the Reds striker.

Lukaku has remained the consummate professional throughout, actually reporting to pre-season training a couple of days early – which is credit to the make up of the man.

Sky also add that Lukaku does want the move to happen, while United would be willing to sell at the right price.

The fact that United are willing to move on from Lukaku lets us know that the forward isn’t in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s long-term plans. That said, you cannot argue with his goal record, 42 goals in 96 games is an excellent return – and by far United’s best since he made the move to the club in 2017.

As this rumbles on, it’ll be intriguing to see if any deal can be reached before the sides meet in a pre-season friendly on July 20th – although time is rapidly running out…
