Manchester United and Chelsea are set to fight it out for the signature of Robert Lewandowski, if the Pole leaves Bayern Munich in the summer.
That’s according to Sky Sports News anyway, who say that the forward wants to leave Bavaria, and his future will become much clearer over the next fortnight.
Bayern Munich’s captain has been amongst the elite strikers in European football over the last five seasons, scoring goals for fun both domestically and in the Champions League.
There is no doubt that the 29-year-old would be a stunning addition for any side in world football, but I’d be surprised if the Red Devils made a move to sign him.
Don’t forget that Jose Mourinho sanctioned a move for Romelu Lukaku less than twelve months ago, and the Belgian has been in great form since his move to Old Trafford. It just wouldn’t make sense to bring another top-level striker into the mix at this point in time; particularly when there are other areas of the squad that need fixing.
In all honesty, I’d much prefer to see that money being invested in another world-class midfielder to play alongside both Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba, but it’s going to be interesting to see what happens if Lewandowski does leave Bayern Munich.
