Sky Sports: Man United offered the chance to sign Strootman on loan

Now here’s a sentence I never thought I’d write again… Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Kevin Strootman on loan.

That’s according to the usually reliable Sky Sports News, who say that the Red Devils, along with West Ham and Everton, have been given the opportunity to take Strootman on a short-term deal.

Aged 29, Marseille paid £23million to sign Strootman from AS Roma just last summer, but the Ligue 1 giants need to cut costs after a disappointing season – thus they’re after someone to take the Dutchman off their hands.

Both Louis van Gaal and David Moyes were linked with a move for Strootman during their time as United manager – and it was pretty disappointing when those attempts at signing him failed.

The offer to sign Strootman actually comes at a time when United need midfielders. Don’t forget that Ander Herrera has left on a free transfer, while Marouane Fellaini departed in January and he was never replaced.

In terms of style, Strootman could be our box-to-box midfielder who sits in there alongside Paul Pogba – allowing the Frenchman to be more creative going forward, while ensuring that United’s #6 doesn’t have to worry about doing defensive duties.

For me, this is worth a punt as it’s a loan deal. Heck, United won’t have anything to lose as if it doesn’t work they can just send him back.
