Manchester United Football Club are seemingly in the market for a new centre-half this summer, with recent rumours linking the Red Devils with a move for Leicester City’s Harry Maguire.
However, the 25-year-old Foxes man isn’t the only name that Jose Mourinho is looking at. According to Sky Sports News’ Paul Gilmour, the Old Trafford club are still keeping tabs on Tottenham Hotspur centre-half, Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgium defender is valued at in excess of £50million by the North London side, whereas United clearly aren’t ready to pay that. At this point, no formal offer has been made, wheres talks currently aren’t ongoing, although the interest still remains.
We understand #mufc & #thfc remain far apart in their valuation of a deal for Toby Alderweireld. No talks or formal offers at this stage. Spurs value Belgian in excess of £50m. More on @SkySportsNews

If we go into the season with the current crop of centre-halves, we’re in serious trouble. Outside of Eric Bailly, none of whom have shown they are capable of playing week-in-week-out at the highest level. Sure, Chris Smalling has his moments, whereas Victor Lindelof could well be the future, but right now, neither look anywhere near the desired quality.
Alderweireld would bring some much-needed experience to the heart of our back line, while also being a marked upgrade in quality. Will a deal happen? I’m not sure, particularly with less than two weeks left in the current transfer window.
