Manchester United Football Club are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of a centre-half.
The latest name to be thrown into the ring? Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin. That’s according to Sky Sports News.
With literally six hours until the deadline, the Red Devils will have to act extremely quickly if they’re to push this move over the line, but I’m just not sure I see Madrid parting with their best centre-half so late on.

There is no doubting that the 32-year-old would be a world-class addition on a short-term basis, particularly after watching him have a brilliant World Cup.
However, this would be only a temporary solution. Godin’s best years are behind him, there is no debating that fact. For the next twelve months, though, he’d certainly turn our defence into arguably the best in the business.
Now, it’s down to sorting out a transfer fee with Atleti. They’ll charge an arm and a leg for a player who’s not getting any younger. If it’s anything over £40million, I’d be surprised to see United make the deal happen, particularly when they’ve baulked at paying not much more than that for Toby Alderweireld who’s a few years younger…
