Manchester United, David de Gea and Real Madrid. Three things that you often hear in the same sentence every single summer. The Spaniard has been the outstanding goalkeeper of the Premier League over the last few years, and it looks as though we’ll be keeping hold of the fan favourite for at least another year.
That’s according to Sky Sports News and their sources, who say that the Old Trafford club are confident that the 26-year-old will remain a Red Devil beyond this summer.
Sky say that De Gea is happy with life at the Theatre of Dreams, and he is looking forward to testing himself out up against the best in the world on the Champions League stage next year. Yet again, the importance of winning the Europa League goes underrated because who knows, this could have been a telling factor in our current #1 staying.
With just two-years left on his current deal, this means that the whispers will undoubtedly rear their ugly head next year too, that’s unless De Gea puts pen to paper on yet another fresh contract before that time comes.
Once again though, I fully expect the shot-stopper to be sensible about it, and weigh up all of his options in one years time.
For now, let us just enjoy the fact that we’re lucky enough to watch this man ply his trade for our club.
