Manchester United Football Club are currently considering selling Juan Mata to Inter Milan this summer.
That’s according to Sky Sports Italia, translated by The Metro. Apparently, the Red Devils would be prepared to lose Mata, despite their being the possibility of parting with Paul Pogba before Thursday’s deadline, too…
Mata’s had an excellent pre-season tour, largely due to playing regularly while key stars are still fully recovering from participating in the World Cup. When those stars return, you’d imagine Mata’s minutes will decrease pretty significantly.
At this point, I’m surprised Mata has lasted this long under Mourinho, so I wouldn’t be wholly surprised to see him depart. My only concern would be that there is very little time to work on a deal for a replacement with time dwindling down pretty quickly.
If we don’t hear anything concrete over the next 24 hours, I’d imagine Mata will last till January at the very least.
I think it’s fair to say this has been a colossally underwhelming transfer window for United. Edward Woodward and Mourinho just haven’t done anywhere near as good a job as the fans would have hoped, with the only major coup being Fred. Losing Mata at this juncture wouldn’t go down too well…
