Manchester United Football Club are close to acquiring the signature of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea, according to Sky Sports News. The Serbia international looks set to become our third major piece of business, following the arrivals of both Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku.
At first, I must admit that I was rather sceptical at the thought of bringing in someone as immobile as Matic, but when you think about it, bringing him in makes a whole lot of sense.

This is a player who makes a living out of protecting and helping the back four, and that is something that Manchester United have been crying out for recently. They need someone who can just sit in the hole and break up play, and make that simple pass to the more creative-minded footballers within our squad.
Jose Mourinho knows him well from their time together at Stamford Bridge, and during his three-and-a-half-year stay in England, Matic has won two Premier League trophies; he’s a winner, and the self-proclaimed Special One trusts him.
I guess now it’s important for Edward Woodward to push a deal over the line as soon as possible, particularly as we’re just a fortnight away from our Premier League opener against West Ham United.
