Manchester United Football Club have knocked back a £60million bid from Real Madrid for David de Gea, according to Sky Sports News. The 26-year-old was a dodgy fax machine away from making a move to the Santiago Bernabeu back in 2015, but has since put pen to paper on a new Old Trafford deal.
That hasn’t stopped Los Blancos coming back to try and sign the Spain international, however, with a colossal bid which would have been a world record transfer fee for a goalkeeper – by quite some distance too… The current record stands at £34.9million, with Manchester City paying that to sign Ederson.
Our noisy neighbours paying that much for a relative unknown spells good news for us. It means we can command a higher fee for a player who is arguably the best in the world at what he does.
Obviously, we’d much prefer to keep hold of ‘Big Dave’ rather than selling him, but I’d be very surprised if the La Liga giants don’t come back in with another bid. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens with this one, but I’d say brace yourself for the worst possible outcome…
