Manchester United Football club played an absolute blinder when they acquired Odion Ighalo on a short-term loan deal.
At the time, Reds fans felt somewhat underwhelmed at the prospect of signing the Nigerian. However, he’s settled in wonderfully well, scoring goals for fun and proving to be a real cult hero.
With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting everyone, concerns were raised about Ighalo’s loan deal. It’s due to end on May 30th and right now, it’s highly unlikely that all games would be completed by that point.
However, Sky Sports News have offered us an update, claiming that it’s likely United will agree upon a loan extension with Ighalo’s parent club, Shanghai Shenhua.
Apparently, a one-month extension should be agreed upon, meaning Ighalo can remain at Old Trafford until June 30th as opposed to May 30th.
At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if talks between United and Shanghai Shenhua about the possibility of signing Ighalo permanently are already taking place. He’s been brilliant for us, while we covered a story from Football Insider last week which claimed he’d be willing to take a £150,000-a-week pay-cut. What’s not to like about that?
He’s experienced, hungry to play for the badge and an excellent option to have. To me, it seems a no-brainer, particularly as he’s already settled into life at Old Trafford.
