Sky Sports: Premier League club reluctant to let powerhouse join Man United

Manchester United may not get their man after all. Jose Mourinho had been linked with a sensational reunion with Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic, but that may not happen anymore, according to Sky Sports News.

Sky claim that although the 28-year-old powerhouse is likely to leave, Chelsea are now reluctant to deal with Manchester United, following the news that the Red Devils beat the Blues to the signature of Romelu Lukaku.

Honestly, this just sounds like sour grapes to me. But, you can hardly blame them. The Stamford Bridge club hold all of the cards and nobody is pressuring them into accepting any bid from Manchester United.

I guess that when Mourinho sanctioned a move for Lukaku, he would have known that there would be some sort of backlash from his former employers, and I’ve no doubts that he has other midfield targets in mind.

For me, Matic would have been an excellent fit. He has experience, he’s played in the Premier League before, and he would give our more attacking midfielders freedom to bomb forward and help out in the final third.

Negotiations with a fellow Premier League club were always going to be tricky, and this may have made them near-on impossible. Perhaps it is time for Edward Woodward to start splashing the cash elsewhere…
