Sky Sports have provided the latest information on the future of Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United are truly making a mess of this Erik ten Hag saga. I assumed the club would have learned from mistakes in the past, though that doesn’t seem to be the case, unfortunately…
INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are taking their sweet time in regard to making their mind up one way or another, which leaves everything up in limbo as the transfer window rapidly approaches. No signings can be made until a decision is made on the Dutchman.
Sky Sports have provided an update on Ten Hag’s future this morning – and it’s a significant one. They have (finally) gone out on a limb and placed a time frame on when to expect a decision on his future, claiming that a choice will be made this week.
Ten Hag has now returned from his summer holiday and presumably, preparation for the new season is now well underway behind the scenes, with the ex-Ajax boss working as normal until he’s told otherwise…
A post-season review is said to be still ongoing, while Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to have held face-to-face talks with Thomas Tuchel about potential taking up the role. The German will not be in the running if Ten Hag does lose his job, with the manager now expected to go on hiatus for the foreseeable future.
I’ve got to be honest, I do not like how this has been handled by the club. Going behind his back and basically interviewing potential targets feels a little sleazy, particularly when Ten Hag is still at the club. It all feels a little unfair.
At the end of the day, I wouldn’t begrudge Ten Hag walking away if he wanted to as it’s pretty disrespectful from the club. If I had to make a guess, I’d assume that INEOS are now planning on sticking with the Dutchman for another season, though they do not seem 100% sold on the idea which is a damn shame.
Either way, the club just need to make their mind up.
