Manchester United are interested in signing Willian from Chelsea, with the player wanting to leave Stamford Bridge – if Antonio Conte remains manager.
That’s according to Sky Sports’ sources. They say that the Brazilian, who has two-years left on his current Chelsea deal, has been the subject of no formal offer from Jose Mourinho as of yet.
The 29-year-old was recently voted Chelsea’s Player’s Player of the Season, which tells you everything you need to know about how his fellow professionals view him in terms of importance.
At United, the right-wing position is probably the only spot in the final third that is up for grabs. Jesse Lingard is far better through the centre, the same can be said about Juan Mata. Having real pace, ability and directness over on that flank would offer much better balance to our starting line-up as a whole.
In terms of fit, I couldn’t think of anything better. This would be a typical Mourinho, win now signing, but it’s one that makes perfect sense.
My only concern is that Willian may end up staying at Chelsea as I personally don’t think Conte will be there next term. You also have to factor in the point that the Stamford Bridge club would probably want to avoid selling to a direct rival.
