Solskajer full of praise for ‘top striker’ Joe Hugill, debut hinted

Remember the name, Joe Hugill. The young forward has been in electric form this term. Now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is taking notice…

Manchester United Football Club has always been the place to be if you’re a young up-and-comer. From Ryan Giggs to Marcus Rashford and Paul Scholes to Mason Greenwood, the Red Devils are always developing talented teenagers.

All the talk recently is understandably about Amad Diallo. I suspect it won’t be long before we see his first-team debut, particularly after his two-goal haul against Liverpool’s U23s at the weekend. However, in that game, there was another kid setting the game alight with an impressive display; Joe Hugill.

The young striker would score four(!) against our old enemy, taking his tally to 14 goals in 17 games across bot U18s and U23s level.

What’s intriguing is that Solskjaer also took notice, also hinting at a first-team debut for the impressive young forward by saying: ‘I’d pick Joe Hugill’. With Edinson Cavani now an injury doubt, why not give Hugill a spot on the bench and maybe see what he can do…?

Check out what Solskjaer had to say here:

“We’re gonna give him the time to settle in.” Solskjaer told reporters, including the Daily Mail.

“If we go from that game [vs Liverpool], I’d pick Joe Hugill.

He added: “Four goals by Hugill, he’s a top striker as well, we’re looking forward to seeing his development.

“Amad gets a good start and why Joe didn’t take the penalty himself to get five goals I’m going to ask him.”

This is why I love this club. If you’re good enough, you’re old enough. United will give anyone their opportunity if they think they’re ready. From Diallo to Hugill, and the likes of Hannibal Mejbri and even Shola Shoretire, the talent-pool at United right now is ridiculous.

For Hugill, this will be another massive confidence-booster. To go up from U18s to U23s football in your first season is massive, but imagine if he now gets his big opportunity with the first-team? Talk about a rise to prominence!

In terms of advice, it’s simple. Hugill just has to keep doing what he’s doing and the chances will undoubtedly come. Hopefully sooner rather than later as I can’t wait to see him in action.
