Solskjaer confirms Anthony Elanga will be involved vs West Ham

Anthony Elanga will feature in some capacity against West Ham United, the gaffer has confirmed.

Cast your mind back to last season. The Premier League title was lost, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer using that as an opportunity to take a closer look at some younger players.

Amongst them was Anthony Elanga, who, but for injury, would’ve been given his chance at least a few months earlier.

The Swede would look super-sharp as soon as he’d take to the field, looking right at home within that United first-team squad. He’d cap off a campaign with a goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers, leaving himself firmly in the mind of the manager over the summer.

Elanga would back his talents up with an excellent pre-season, though we’re yet to see him in competitive action this term. However, the 19-year-old starlet is set to feature in the squad vs West Ham tonight, the gaffer has confirmed.

Check out what Solskjaer had to say here:

“Anthony was terrific in pre-season – his attitude, his enthusiasm, his directness. I love to see players like this.” Solskjaer told ManUtd.com.

“He was disappointed not to travel down to West Ham [for Sunday’s Premier League game] but he scored for the Under-23s and now he’s ready. He’ll be involved in the squad.”

Obviously, the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo have made it tougher for Elanga to get his minutes, but that doesn’t take away from his talents.

The fact that he’s still here, rather than being shipped out on loan, tells you everything you need to know about highly regarded he is by manager Solskjaer.

Although Elanga himself will be chomping at the bit, there is absolutely no rush with him. He’s still so young and learning his trade, while the minutes will start to flow when Solskjaer thinks he’s ready.

Personally, I hope Elanga starts later today. This represents an excellent opportunity for the attacker to further prove his credentials. If he plays well, there’s every chance he’ll see more action over the next few weeks as the games start to come thick and fast.

I really do rate this kid as a top-class talent and I can’t wait to see him in action this evening.

Can Anthony Elanga still get his fair share of minutes this season? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
