Solskjaer confirms contract talks with Eric Bailly

Manchester United Football Club are in contract talks with Eric Bailly, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed.

Defensively, Manchester United has been a massive letdown this season. Needless goals have been constantly shipped at the worst possible moments and I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that this is the key reason why our title challenge ended prematurely.

It’s no surprise to see United linked with several different centre-backs in the transfer market already. No doubt that list will only continue to grow as we approach the summer transfer window.

Anyway, one man United seem intent on keeping around is Eric Bailly. Solskjaer confirmed United are in contract talks with the key 26-year-old star, as his current deal continues to wind down…

Check out what the gaffer told the UK media yesterday:

‘He is keeping fitter for longer and you can see his performances as well and I have been very happy with him.’ Solskjaer told the media, including The Metro.

‘His playing style has sometimes made him lose too many games because 100 games that is not enough for the period he has been here. ‘

‘He is getting more and more robust so yes he is one we are talking to.’

I’ll be the first to admit, I thought it was over for Bailly at United. Bad form, rotten injury luck and zero morale. This time twelve months ago, the Ivorian looked like never turning that around.

To everyone’s surprise, Bailly looks like a completely different player this season. So he’s still suffering from injury issues from time-to-time – but as Solskajer says, he’s getting over them, slowly but surely.

I don’t mind giving Bailly one final chance, but he’s still not somebody who can be solely depended upon. I’d still like to see United make their move for a Raphael Varane or someone of that calibre if possible.

Having Bailly, who is arguably the best centre-half at the club when fit, as a third or fourth choice option seems like a wise move. Hopefully, both parties can come to an agreement in the not too distant future.
