Manchester United’s 6-2 victory over Leeds United was marred by a double concern over Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw with injury.
The Red Devils were great value for a huge three points against our Yorkshire rivals. Now, it’s about keeping up momentum over the hectic winter schedule, which is far easier said than done.
At this stage in the campaign, it’s vital you have a large squad to choose from. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made some astute signings over the summer which offer him exactly that.
However, United are sweating on the fitness of a key duo after both picked up injuries in yesterday’s clash against Leeds. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed both Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw are now doubts.
When asked if McTominay and Shaw are injury doubts, Solskjaer replied:
“Yeah, I would think so. Luke has been ill for a few days and was only passed fit this morning. He didn’t train yesterday.” the boss told ManUtd.com.
“Scott, it seemed like a groin issue. I don’t know. Hopefully, it won’t be too long as he’s not had any muscle injuries before. But I don’t know how quickly he will recover.”
For Shaw, to not train and then play in such a high-intensity game is credit to how well he’s looked after his body recently. I sort of hoped that he was taken off for tactical reasons but at the time, he did look to be struggling a little.
McTominay’s problem felt a little more serious. He was looking in a fair bit of discomfort as he walked off the field holding his groin. Let’s hope it’s not a major issue because those can often keep you out for a little while.
If our title aspirations are genuine, we’re going to need both Shaw and McTominay to recover quickly. We can’t solely rely on Alex Telles and Nemanja Matic to play game-in-game-out, particularly as we’re still in four competitions.
The sensible thing to do would be to leave out the pair against Everton in midweek, then re-assess their availability for a massive game against Leicester City on boxing day.
Get well soon, lads!
