Solskjaer confirms Pogba, Varane remain ‘out for a while’ ahead of Watford

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that an important duo are still absent.

After what feels like an absolute age, Manchester United finally make their return this weekend.

The Old Trafford club will have been simmering on their poor form for the last fortnight. Let’s hope they’ve used that as positive motivation rather than putting a negative spin on things.

Ahead of Watford away this weekend, under-fire manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been speaking to the media during his pre-match press conference. The gaffer would sadly confirm that two United stars are sidelined for the foreseeable future. Both Raphael Varane and Paul Pogba remain ‘out for a while’.

Check out what the gaffer had to say here:

“Paul is out still for a while, Raphael is out for a while still. Apart from that, players will be coming back, call it in the near future. Some this weekend and some during the week. But that’s the same for every team that misses players.” Solskjaer told the media, including ManUtd.com.

I’ll be surprised if we see Pogba before the New Year given the nature of his injury. The French midfielder suffered the problem in France training, with further rubbing salt into the wound.

As for Varane, I’m hopeful that he’ll be back in December. It all depends on how quickly his body can heal from the issue. For me, he’s the more important one of the two as without him, our defence looks absolutely lost.

There was some good news, with some unnamed players set to be back fit and available for the game this weekend. I’m looking at Scott McTominay as someone who can be fit, while Edinson Cavani may not be too far away.

For the time being, I’d like to see Solskjaer try something different. For far too long, we’ve been trying to make the same players and tactics work. Perhaps it’s time for Solskjaer to give some of our fringe players a chance. At the end of the day, it’s the least they deserve.
