Manchester United Football Club were brought straight back down to earth on New Years Day, with the Red Devils losing 2-0 to an inspired Arsenal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top-four hopes would have taken a dent, though the FA Cup could provide some welcome relief from the rigours of the Premier League.

The oldest cup competition in English football is always worth winning, perhaps the FA Cup is now the Red Devils’ best shot at silverware this term so it’s worth taking seriously. First up is an away game against Wolverhampton Wanderers – which certainly isn’t going to be easy…

Anyway, ahead of the game Solskjaer met the media and confirmed one starter already – with 32-year-old Sergio Romero set to start against the Midlands outfit.

“Sergio will play and he will be in goal,” Ole told reporters, including

“He has been fantastic when he has played.

“He has played in the Carabao Cup a couple of times and he has played in Europe, so he is keeping his record up with those games.

“He has not played enough, for his liking, but whenever he has been called upon, he has always produced.”

As the manager says, Romero has never once let us United fans down. In terms of back-ups, the Argentine is probably the best in the business, although he probably sees himself as good enough to be the regular starter.

No doubt he’ll be tested frequently against Wolves this weekend, though one area in which I’d say Romero bests David de Gea is when it comes to commanding his penalty box. Sure, he may be smaller in stature than his Spanish counterpart, but he’s far more decisive in his decision-making…

My main concern is that when Dean Henderson comes back will that push Romero out of the exit door? For what it’s worth, it would make sense to keep ahold of the young Englishman, allowing Romero to move elsewhere and fulfil his dream of playing week-in-week-out.
