Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that he hopes to utilise a young pair of Man United players against Wolverhampton Wanderers on the season’s final day.
With nothing left to play for, this Sunday’s final day is nothing but a formality for Manchester United Football Club.
The Red Devils will finish in second place no matter what happens and with a Europa League final just on the horizon, expect to see regular faces wrapped up in cotton wool and rested here.
It does give us a chance to get a glimpse into the future, though, with Solskjaer confirming that a mega-talented duo ‘will be involved’ against Wolves in some capacity.
Hannibal Mejbri and Shola Shoretire were named Reserve Player and Young Player of the Year award winners respectively. Now, they’re going to be given their first-team chance.
We’ve seen Shoretire make his full debut off the substitutes bench already this season, though for Hannibal, it’ll be his first appearance for the senior squad which must be exciting for the midfielder and his family.
Check out what Solskjaer had to say here:
“They’ve had good seasons,” Ole told the media, including ManUtd.com. “Both of them. Hannibal and Shola, both of them will be involved. Maybe we can get some minutes in them.”
These guys could well be the future of this club. Why not see what they’ve got to offer in this game? It’s a risk-free move by Solskjaer so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them both start at Molineux this Sunday.
Hannibal is more a prototypical central midfielder, while Shoretire likes to play further up the field. I see the former’s path into the first-team being far clearer at this moment in time because I genuinely don’t see how Hannibal can do play worse than the likes of Fred has recently.
Hopefully, these guys can get the nod to play from the start and take their chances with both hands. I’d like to think they’ll be a few senior faces involved in the line-up in order to help these younger guys through the game, but what a massive moment this will be for the pair.
Good luck, lads!
