Edinson Cavani is looking likely to miss Manchester United’s game against Sheffield United tomorrow.
Earlier today, Edinson Cavani was spotted back out on the training field with the rest of his Manchester United teammates following injury.
The Uruguay international would miss games against both RB Leipzig and Manchester City, after picking up a problem against West Ham United.
Thankfully, the problem doesn’t seem like a long-term one, with the star striker already working his way back to fitness. However, it seems as though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer isn’t planning on rushing El Matador back too quickly.
While speaking to the media today, Solskjaer doubts that the key United star will be available to play against Sheffield United tomorrow, as Cavani looks to work his way back from said injury.
Check out what Solskjaer had to say here:
”Edinson has done well in his rehab, but we still have to make a decision if we should risk him because it is a risk a little bit too early. I doubt he’ll be available for me to pick him tomorrow.” Solskjaer told reporters, including ManUtd.com.
Although we’d all love to see Cavani out there tomorrow evening, it does make sense to not rush him back.
With games starting to come thick and fast over the hectic winter schedule, the last thing Solskjaer will want is to lose his key man on a long-term basis. After all, we’re talking about Cavani who had no pre-season and didn’t play a game for months prior to that.
He’s also 33 now and Cavani will know his body better than anyone. Let’s not rush him back and ensure he’s ready and fighting fit over the course of this long season.
With respect to Sheffield United, you’d hope that the likes of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial have enough quality to go out there and score a few goals here – ensuring United come back to Old Trafford with all three points.
