Solskjaer full of praise for Fred & McTominay partnership

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped the praise on Fred and Scott McTominay.

Manchester United Football Club are moving in a positive direction, slowly but surely.

Whatever you think of him as a manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves credit for the work he’s done – particularly in terms of turning that squad into one that can compete with any team on their day.

The only area that can now be deemed as unsatisfactory is the midfield. Outside of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba, we’re getting very little consistency from that position. It would explain transfer links to the likes of Kalvin Phillips earlier today.

However, Solskjaer being the morale-booster that he is has heaped the praise on a United duo who divide fan opinion like no other; Scott McTominay and Fred.

Check out what Solskjaer had to say on Fred & McTominay here:

“As you said, first of all, the stats for those two together, we’ve had many, many good results, the energy they give us, the way we broke up play against Villa, they’re very, very instrumental together, in that respect. Energy and desire, and I really like to have the two of them,” Solskjaer said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“They’re two who I can trust and will always give what they’ve got. Fans will always have an opinion on any team selection and when you have got good players like me it’s hard to leave players out.”

Solskjaer has always been a players coach. And although I feel confident in saying the majority of our fans aren’t big on Fred and McTominay, he clearly trusts them a lot.

At the end of the day, whenever we’re playing a big game, Ole always utilises the ‘McFred’ double pivot – and more often than not, they don’t let us down.

I genuinely believe the problem comes in the games we should be winning. It’s when we’re going toe-to-toe with teams like Aston Villa or Newcastle United, who sit back. Fred and McTominay don’t possess the passing quality to break those teams down. That’s where the change should be made.

Solskjaer is well within his rights to back these two, but he needs to utilise them a little bit differently. That doesn’t mean they’re bad players, far from it in fact.

No doubt both will be involved in the side tomorrow night at Old Trafford.
