Solskjaer growing irritated with Rashford & Martial’s inability to score scruffy goals: report

Manchester United have earned five points from their opening four league games; which is their worst start to a Premier League season in years.

After the international break, the games don’t get any easier with Leicester and West Ham just on the horizon.

The problem for the Reds has been chance creation. United don’t carve out anywhere near enough clear-cut chances, while they seldom have someone in the box to finish the opportunities off…

Well, according to The Athletic (subscription required), United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ‘growing increasingly irritated’ with two Man United stars for their inability to score ‘scruffy’ goals. The two players are Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial…

As we all know, Solskjaer was the master at sticking the ball in the back of the net. He was an absolute assassin in front of goal, no matter how easy or difficult the chance.

It’s about coaching up Martial and Rashford to do likewise. After all, the manager has put a lot of trust in the pair as he’s opted to let both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez leave…

Apparently, to improve on their killer instinct, Solskjaer has the pair on finishing drills in training, with exercises involving darting towards the front post in order to get across their man and finish off those ‘easy’ chances.

Hopefully, this has an impact over the course of a long season. We’re desperate for both Martial and Rashford to hit the 20-goal mark this term, though it’s Daniel James leading the way at the moment as he’s scored three times.
