Anthony Elanga would score his first Manchester United goal vs Wolves, capping off an excellent performance.
After being promoted to the Manchester United first team just a week or so ago, Anthony Elanga would prove why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made the right decision.
From the first minute, Manchester United’s young Swede looked threatening, making direct runs that were causing Wolves’ defence all sorts of issues.
In the thirteenth minute, Elanga would give United the lead with a bullet header following an inch-perfect cross from Daniel James. The delight on the 19-year-old’s face was brilliant to see as he struck his first senior goal.
Elanga wasn’t done there. He’d be involved in some lovely team moves, most notably linking up well with Amad Diallo, always trying to make things happen.
After the match, Solskjaer would heap the praise on the United teenager, who has a massively bright future if he continues to develop and grow.
“(Elanga)Has enormous potential.” Solskjaer told reporters, including the BBC’s Simon Stone.
“He is a lad who wants to learn. Works really hard. Has pace and directness. Right footed but equally as good on his left. Future is bring. I know I can trust him to keep his feet on the ground and make the most of his talent.”
It’s worth noting that this opportunity may well have come a few months ago, if not for a lengthy injury lay-off at the back end of 2020. Now, Elanga is making up for lost time, ending the season on a brilliant note.
Now, it’s about working hard during the off-season and coming back hungry in 2021/22. This has given Elanga a taste of what it’s like and I really do believe the tricky winger is more than good enough to get himself in the line-up on a regular basis next term.
This does make me wonder, with Amad and Elanga looking like they have massive potential, does this mean United will still pursue Jadon Sancho hard this summer? Who knows.
