Solskjaer names Marcus Rashford as Man United’s new permanent penalty taker: report

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘tore into’ Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford after the penalty farce as Manchester United drew 1-1 with Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to The Sun.

Apparently, Pogba has since been stripped of penalty-taking duties, with Solskjaer telling the dressing room that Rashford is the new, permanent spot-kick taker after the pair failed to decide on who’ll do the job before the match got underway.

Understandably, the Baby Faced Assassin was left ’embarrassed’ by the whole fiasco. It really was school playground stuff, but now it seems as though it will not be an issue going forward.

After missing four penalties in the last year, it makes sense to take Pogba off spot-kick duties. I know he scored a large portion of his goals from twelve yards last term, but you’d imagine that Rashford, who is probably our best penalty taker, will score more.

This isn’t to take away from Pogba’s quality, either. The Frenchman did wonderfully well to win the penalty, but sometimes it’s about stepping aside and giving it to the man who scored from the same position just the week before. As the old saying goes, if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it…

At least going forward this will no longer come under scrutiny. Rashford is the man and if penalties help him towards his first 20+ goal season I’ll be delighted.
