Manchester United’s squad has been struck by injuries recently, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having limited bodies for some huge matches.
Thankfully, the players have produced the goods. One thing that has never been a problem is goalscoring. In the last three games, the Red Devils have scored nine goals – with the bulk of them coming from Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford.
It’s a partnership that is flourishing at the moment as both are interchangeable and can drift out wide if needs be. Now, Solskjaer has spoken about their on-field relationship in glowing terms…
“We played with two up top against PSG, and Rom and Rashy might form a very nice partnership together, the two of them,” says Ole, per United’s official Twitter account. “I wouldn’t like to be a defender having them two running at me.”
The blend is brilliant. Rashford has electric pace while Lukaku has huge physicality. Both are excellent finishers, Rashford can pass while Lukaku can hold the ball up.
It has all the makings for a top combination and it’s scary that both are only getting better. Playing the pair in a 4-4-2 is a real throwback to United under Sir Alex Ferguson, and in some games where opposing teams will sit back, it could be the way forward.
As they play together, their understanding will only improve and it’s brilliant to see them both flourishing – particularly on the European stage.
