Solskjaer offers hugely encouraging injury update for Liverpool game

Manchester United’s dressing room will be in great spirits. The Red devils beat Chelsea in their own back yard last time out. Things don’t get any easier as Liverpool visit Old Trafford next up.

For the game, it was looking like both Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard would miss the clash due to injuries they picked up against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may well have been laying mindgames, with the Baby Faced Assassin offering a hugely positive injury update in regards to the pair…

“I hope and think Anthony will be ready and I hope Jesse will be ready because it’s two different injuries,” the Norwegian told Stewart Gardner of

So maybe more hope than think, with Anthony as well, but he’s got a chance. Anyway, we still hope Jesse could be ready. Let’s see. We’ve still got a couple of days’ training left and they need to be part of it.”

Adding in his press conference, Ole said: “They’ve not been part of it yet, but they’ve been doing some recovery work and Anthony’s was a different muscle, of course, so we think that he might be ready and hope that Jesse will.”

At the very least, this gives Solskjaer options. Should he choose to stick with the side that bested Chelsea, he’ll have some great substitutes to call upon.

He could revert to the speedy 4-3-3 with Martial on the left and Lingard on the right (provided he’s fit). Even if Lingard doesn’t make it, the good news is that he doesn’t seem too far away.

Everything Solskjaer is touching at the moment is turning to gold. Liverpool will provide an immensely stern challenge this Sunday, but going into the game, you certainly fancy us to get one over on them at home. Hopefully, we’re celebrating three points in 48 hours time!
